Halloween has grown into one of the strongest seasonal retail moments after Christmas, and London shops, bars and family venues all see a clear lift in October. A banner outside the door is one of the easiest, cheapest ways to mark the season and tell passing trade what you have on.
This guide covers what works for Halloween banners across London, including size, colour, message and where to hang them. Examples come from the kind of banners we print for shops in Camden, Shoreditch, Putney and Clapham from our Putney Heath studio.
A 5ft x 2ft 510gsm PVC banner in orange and black with a clear Halloween message costs around Β£36 from our Putney studio. Order by 11am for same-day collection. Keep copy short, use high contrast, and hang it above eye line so it reads from across the road.
Why Halloween Banners Work for Retail
Halloween shopping is impulse-led. Parents grabbing costumes, friends planning parties, students looking for face paint, most of them buy from the first shop that catches the eye. A clear banner outside earns its money in a single Saturday afternoon.
Bars and venues with a Halloween night benefit even more. A banner advertising your event a week early fills tables that would otherwise sit empty on what is usually a quiet midweek night.
Banner Ideas by Business Type
Different shops need different angles. The aim is to make the offer obvious in under three seconds of passing glance.
Costume and Party Shops
Lead with the product. Halloween Costumes Here, Face Paint In Store, Adult and Kids Sizes. A 5ft x 3ft banner above the door works hardest because it is visible from both sides of the road.
Bars, Pubs and Clubs
Lead with the night. Halloween Party 31 Oct, Fancy Dress Drinks, DJ from 9pm. Add a date and you have a usable banner. Pubs in Shoreditch and Camden see strong returns on a banner printed a week ahead.
Halloween shoppers buy from the first shop that catches the eye. A banner is the cheapest way to be that shop.
Colour and Design Choices
Orange on black is the obvious pairing and it works hard at distance. White on deep purple is more grown-up and reads well outside cocktail bars or restaurants. Avoid pure red on black, it muddles into a brown shape from across the street.
Halloween fonts are tempting but the dripping-blood style is hard to read at 30 feet. Use a chunky sans-serif for the headline and save the spooky font for one or two accent words at most.

Where to Hang Halloween Banners in London
Brick fascias take screws through brass eyelets. Bar windows take suction hooks for a 3ft x 2ft window banner. Railings outside pubs work with cable ties. If you have scaffolding nearby in central London, use cable ties through the eyelets for a clean fix that the wind cannot lift.
Avoid hanging across pavements at head height, local councils remove these on sight. Keep the banner to private wall space, fence line or interior window placement where consent is clear. For pubs with outdoor smoking areas, a banner along the fence line is usually well-received and pulls passing groups in.
Chunky sans-serif headline, one spooky accent word, orange on black. That is a Halloween banner that earns its keep.
Lead Time and Storage
We print same-day on artwork in by 11am. For Halloween we recommend ordering five to seven days ahead so you have time to hang and photograph for social. After the season, roll the banner print-side out around a cardboard tube and store dry. A 510gsm PVC banner stored well will come back out for three or four seasons.
Avoid dating the banner to a specific year so it reuses. Halloween Party Friday and Saturday rolls into next year, Halloween Party 31 Oct 2026 does not. Small wording change, big difference to the cost-per-use over time.
If you hang the banner mid-October it gets two and a half weeks of trade rather than the rushed final week. Many bars and shops in Brixton, Clapham and Camden see better returns from earlier hanging because the build-up to Halloween itself is when bookings get made.
