Black Friday is the single highest-stakes trading day for many independent London retailers. The shoppers are already out, the budget is in their pocket, and your competitors are loud. A clear, well-placed banner is one of the cheapest ways to be louder than the chain stores on your high street.
This checklist covers what to order, when to order it and how to make it work. Examples come from the banners we print for shops in Putney, Wandsworth, Kensington and Westfield-area Hammersmith from our Putney Heath studio.
Order Black Friday banners by the third week of November. A 5ft x 3ft 510gsm PVC banner costs around Β£42 and lasts three or four years if stored properly. Use white text on solid black with a single percentage and a deadline. Order by 11am for same-day collection from Putney Heath.
What to Print for Black Friday
Most shops need two banners. A big above-door or fascia banner with the main offer, and a smaller window or A-frame banner with a secondary message like Members Get Early Access or Online Codes In Store. The two together cost less than Β£80 and out-perform any other print spend that week.
If budget is tight, print one banner only and put it where the most pedestrians will see it. For a typical Putney shop that is above the door, not in the window.
Headline Copy
Black Friday banners are the one time in the year where short, blunt copy wins outright. Up to 70% Off, Black Friday Now On, 50% Off Today Only, Black Friday Doorbusters. Add a deadline like Today Only or Ends Sunday and you have a banner that pulls people in.
Skip the brand voice. The brain processes Black Friday in milliseconds because shoppers are primed for the phrase. Trying to be clever here costs you sales.
Single-Number Banners
The strongest banners use one dominant number. 50% in 24-inch text with Black Friday underneath in 6-inch text reads from across a four-lane road. Adding a second percentage halves the impact.
Deadline-Led Banners
Ends Sunday or Today Only at the bottom of the banner converts browsers into walk-ins. Without a deadline, shoppers tell themselves they will come back later and they often do not.
One dominant number, one deadline, black background. That is the Black Friday banner that converts.
Sizes and Placement
Above the door at 8 to 10 feet is the most-read position. Window banners take a 3ft x 2ft to 4ft x 2ft. A-frames take a 3ft x 2ft cleanly. Larger shops set back from the pavement need 6ft x 3ft or 8ft x 4ft to read at distance.
If you trade on a busy stretch like Putney High Street, Wandsworth Town or near Westfield in Hammersmith, the banner is competing with chain store signage that is much larger than yours. Going one size up costs Β£10 to Β£15 and is usually worth it.
Black Friday Banner Sizes and Prices
| Size | Best Use | Indicative Price |

| 3ft x 2ft | Window or A-frame | Β£31 |
| 5ft x 2ft | Shop fascia | Β£36 |
| 5ft x 3ft | Above door | Β£42 |
| 6ft x 3ft | Large shop front | Β£48 |
| 8ft x 4ft | Set-back retail unit | Β£60 |
Lead Times to Hit Black Friday
Order one to two weeks ahead. Mid-November is the sweet spot. We print same-day on artwork in by 11am, so if you have left it late we can usually still help, but proof rounds eat time. Earlier is better.
If you trade online too, photograph the banner once it is up and use that image on social and your Google Business profile. It costs nothing extra and shows shoppers the deal is real.
Mid-November order, hung the Monday before, photographed for social on Tuesday. That is the timeline that works.
Storage for Future Years
Black Friday is annual. A 510gsm PVC banner with hemmed edges and brass eyelets stored print-side out around a cardboard tube will return for three or four years before colours start to fade noticeably. The cost-per-use is hard to beat.
Keep year-specific copy off the design if you want maximum reuse. Black Friday Now On reuses for life. Black Friday 2026 needs reprinting next year. The wording choice is small but changes the cost-per-use significantly over the lifespan of the banner.
If you offer Cyber Monday or weekend extensions, a second smaller banner with Ends Cyber Monday or Weekend Only can be hung alongside the main banner. Print both at the same time and they cost less per item, around Β£67 for the pair from our Putney Heath studio.
